Houston and Thailand
And by Houston, I mean: “Houston…we have a problem”. Over the past week, I have witnessed actively participated in what can only be described as complete and total goal failure. You remember all that progress I made last week on my mini goals? Yeah? Well…fahgettaboutit. I drank soda probably daily, blogged approximately never, exercised only once and was on facebook liking people’s status updates like it was my job. Oh dear.
However, I do have a semi-decent excuse reason (not really…but work with me here). We were in sunny, beautiful Thailand! We had a week off of school so we zipped over to Phuket to stay at the gorgeous Mai Khao beach.
Needless to say it was amazing but all of my little goals went straight out the window. One might argue that being on vacation should technically allow you MORE time to, say exercise or blog. And one would be right. Regardless, I took a different approach this vacation: I relaxed straight up, on the rocks, with salt. There were morning swims with my boys, lazy afternoon naps, VPNless facebook sessions and leisurely dinners with plenty of wine. I just soaked up every ounce of pleasure (guitly or otherwise) I could while I was there….including my fair share of pan au chocolat and mango and sticky rice (with coconut ice cream! Holy heck that was delish!).
And you know what else? I don’t really feel bad about my goal-breaking behavior (except maybe that there lack of exercise). In fact, I feel like for the first time this school year, I was actually relaxed and, as a result, so incredibly happy.
Maybe it was the endless blue sky days (have I mentioned that we don’t get a lot of those here in Beijing?) complemented by the lush green foliage. Maybe it was feeling the warm sand beneath my toes or, even better, watching Beau Beau feel the sand beneath his.
Maybe it was watching Beau gradually conquer the water slide.
Perhaps it was playing around with my brand spankin’ new DSLR camera and capturing some priceless moments.
Perhaps it was the mouthwatering food and the sunset dinners.
Whatever it was….I loved it all! Every little goal-breaking second of it! Kop khun kha Thailand for another beautiful holiday!
Now back to those goals….
