Hi.

Welcome, friends! This here slice of the Internet revolves around lattes, bookshelves, Pinterest, Emily Henderson, white wine spritzers, China, brass anything, passports and my sweet family. Grammar and important worldly events? Not so much. Consider yourself warned.

So now that I know there is a possibility that someone is out there listening, I feel some obligation to reveal to you that I have no idea what I am doing.

Phew. It feels good to get that off my chest.

In terms of this blog, I know what I WANT to do but I do not speak the right language to get ‘er done. That language would be the not-so-romantic language of computer-speak or computer code or I don’t even know what the language is called. To me it is just called, hard. Hard and overwhelming. Hard and overwhelming and a tad boring to read about and try to learn.

This is me trying to understand the difference between a widget and a plugin.

This is me trying to understand the difference between a widget and a plugin.

Just by starting this little blog, I have opened myself up to this world that I seriously do not understand. There are plugins, child themes, gravatars and simple scripts, RSS feeds, and widgets and so, so, so, so much more. None of which I know anything about. Do y’all? Does everybody understand this stuff? Am I just an idiot?

What is all this stuff?

What is all this stuff?

I know that I do not HAVE to know it all in order to write my little blog posts, but there is something in me that wants to try and learn this cooky foreign language. I need to take WordPress 101. Sadly without taking that course (that I am fairly certain does not exist or at least not in Beijing), I think I may have a better chance of learning Chinese. #alsonotlikely. That said, I’m gonna try… one widget at a time.

So this is all to say, that you may find yourself rolling up onto my blog and it looking TOTALLY different every other day. This is all part of the process of me attempting to learn: What works? What doesn’t? What looks awesome? What looks horrible? What is easy to use and what requires a person to be married to a computer programmer? Which come to think of it might be an easier option than trying to educate myself to speak computer (just kidding Brado….you’re my guy 4L).

So…to all 6 of you out there that would even notice…now you know why my blog looks like it has Dissociative Identity Disorder (better known by its popular, but technically incorrect name, multiple personality disorder). #psychologyteacher #donthate

In other news, I created a new page (not a post. Did you know those are different? Neither did I until 2 days ago) that takes you on a step-by-step tour of our house in chiggity China. To check it out just click here or go to the home page and at the top right-hand corner of the screen you should see a tab called ‘Home Tour’.

We are off to the Philippines tomorrow night so you can expect some fun travel posts in the near future!
